OpenAI has canceled a planned ChatGPT Pro 200 usage reduction and raised Work and Codex allowances for several higher-priced plans following subscriber feedback.
OpenAI’s October 29, 2026 ChatGPT release note says Pro 100 and Pro 500 now include twice their previous Work and Codex allowance. The same entry says the Pro 200 reduction announced in a September 29 email has been canceled.
OpenAI’s updated Pro tiers help page gives a more precise account of the Pro 200 change. Subscribers who already had the higher Work and Codex allowance keep it. Subscribers on the lower allowance now receive twice their previous allowance, bringing them to the same limit as other Pro 200 subscribers. The monthly price remains US$200.
That makes the reversal narrower than a blanket extra doubling for every Pro 200 account. It prevents the planned cut and standardizes Pro 200 around the higher allowance.
Prices and feature split remain unchanged
OpenAI lists three monthly personal Pro plans: Pro 100 at US$100, Pro 200 at US$200, and Pro 500 at US$500. Pro 200 is available again for new subscriptions, and OpenAI says active subscribers do not need to cancel and resubscribe to receive the updated allowance.
Pro 500 remains the only personal Pro tier that includes Ultrafast. Buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock Ultrafast at launch, according to OpenAI.
Plus usage is unchanged. OpenAI’s help page also says Pro 100 and Pro 500 keep their current weekly GPT-6 Pro chat message limits, while the lower Pro 200 weekly limit now matches the higher one. Those chat limits are separate from Work and Codex allowances.
The allowance is not a fixed task count
OpenAI’s usage guidance says Work and Codex usage depends on the selected model, task size, reasoning effort, and amount of work performed. A longer task can use more of an allowance than a short task, so a fixed message count is not a reliable measure of remaining usage.
The updated Pro tiers page also says a larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks. The change gives heavier users more room, but it is still an allowance system rather than unlimited access to every advanced model or agentic workflow.
Business Premium is included, but public details are less precise
OpenAI’s Business release notes also include Business Premium in the October 29 Work and Codex usage increase. Public Business help pages say Premium seats offer higher Work and Codex usage than Standard seats, with no five-hour usage limit.
BleepingComputer reported that OpenAI staffer Thibault Sottiaux wrote on X that the doubling applied to Pro 100, Pro 200, Pro 500, and Business Premium. OpenAI’s public Business help pages do not publish a new exact Business Premium multiplier in the same way the Pro page describes personal Pro plans.
OpenAI lists Business Premium seats at US$125 per user per month when billed monthly, or US$100 per user per month when billed annually. Business workspaces have a two-seat minimum.
Another usage accounting change is coming
Separate from the reversal, OpenAI says Plus, Pro, and Business plans will move to a shared ChatGPT and Codex allowance starting in December. Usage will be measured in tokens, and OpenAI says Instant chat will not draw from that usage.
OpenAI says users will be able to see combined remaining usage and reset times in Settings → Usage. If an account reaches its limit, the listed options are to wait for a reset, upgrade the plan, or buy credits where eligible.
For teams, the harder question is how upcoming shared token accounting will affect heavy Work and Codex use in December.
